Who Is On the Throne of Your Heart?
Our hearts are the center of everything in our life. It is like the wheel of a car. The wheel is used to steer our car into the direction that we want it to go. When we drive we steer away from potholes from damaging our car, we steer it into a direction that takes us to our desired destination so we are not lost, and we steer our car away from oncoming traffic to avoid an accident.
Depending on what is in our hearts or what we allow in our hearts will steer us in a direction in life that can either be for our good, or have a negative outcome.
One of the things that can keep us from experiencing a breakthrough in life is having something other than God on the throne of our hearts. God will not be in competition with anything. He won’t be in competition with money, a career, spouse or our children.
Let’s take it home a bit. God won’t be in competition with the issues on our job, he won’t be in competition with us worrying about our finances, he won’t be in competition with the stress of a marriage that is failing, and he won’t be in competition with the loneliness of a single woman that desire to be married. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with desiring change to a situation that is heavy we cannot allow it to take over our lives to the point where that is all we know.
Matthew 6:11 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Another word for treasure is a persons greatest desire. If we want a breakthrough there is nothing more that we should want for than God’s presence and for Him to be on the throne of our hearts.
Proverbs 4:23 – Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
Challenges in life can easily slip into first place and God become second. There is no steadfast rule that says because we are having issues with our children we are allowed to put God second, or because our spouses are not on the same page with us that we are allowed to put God second, or because our career is demanding or stressful. This is a mistake that is so easily made and what happens while we put God second we are still asking Him for help but wondering why He’s not moving.
Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done.”
At some point, if we want to see a breakthrough we have to say “Father not my will but yours.” Removing ourselves from the drivers seat of our situations and allowing God to be on the throne of our hearts can be difficult to the point where it might even feel painful. We cannot walk by faith and believe for a miracle while we have doubt and worry at the same time and stay in the drivers seat trying to fix our situations. God can’t get the glory from anything that we do He has to do it. You will know without a doubt that it’s God.
Psalm 103:1 Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
The experience of praising God with our whole heart comes from releasing everything else and putting God first on the throne of our hearts.
What do we think praise brings??? What do we think exalting God brings?? It brings Him down into our situations.
Proverbs 15:13 – A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT).
