Choosing The Right Words-Game Changer
Knowing that our words have power can be very exciting to some. People understand that their words can be intimidating while used with a certain tone along with a certain choice of words. They know that words can frighten people into submission, or they can get their way by saying certain things. Some people also understand that their words can encourage someone and push them into their destiny.
This is why it’s very important for us to seek the Lord for guidance on how to operate with our mouth (words). We may be thinking “operate”, why do we even have to bother paying attention to what we say and just speak our minds. Because the fact of the matter is that our words can either benefit us or hurt us, benefit someone else or hurt them. Also, if by chance if we are using certain words to cause fear in others, tear down or to intimidate others, those very same words will certainly backfire on us. This is because we are affected by the words coming from our mouths whether it’s towards someone else or we are speaking about ourselves.
Psalm 19:14. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight.
What we choose to say should never be based on the circumstances or the matter at hand. Before we speak we should make sure that what we are about to say is going to be acceptable in the sight of God.
Because we are supposed to be “Christ like” our mouths have to follow suit when it comes to the words that we speak.
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Blessings come when we use our tongues to bless others, our words have the power of life and death in them.
If we don’t understand the power of our words we should think about the time when someone said something to us as a child that had a negative impact on our lives. The impact of these words can run into adulthood and change the course of our lives away from what God has for us. Even as adults if a negative word is spoken to us there is a moment that we have to take to “shake it off.”
Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
We may be thinking “yes I am going to ask God to help me with my mouth so I don’t hurt others.” And God is saying thats good because remember the words you speak that are negative to others affect you just as much or worse.
James 1: 19-20 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
Speaking out of turn can bread an environment that ultimately we will not like. And the turn of events is never positive.
James 3:6 And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.
This right here we make you want to close your mouth for a long time until we are certain that we are saying the right thing.
Psalm 141:3 Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.
While we pray to God about other things we are faced with in life there are times when we have to ask Him to help us with our mouths. We cannot underestimate where we are when it comes to the words that we speak. If we don’t take an opportunity to double check how we speak to others we could be blind in this area, tearing people down, making a huge mess and not even know it.
Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
If we did not know how to respond in any given situation Colossians has the answer.
Revelation 12:10-12 says: Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
We cannot give space to the enemy. We have to choose a side and the winning side is God’s way. God can only fight our battles when we are on his team.
Matthew 18: 18-20 Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
If we are not willing to face the fact that maybe this is an area that we need to make some adjustments in our mouths can keep us in bondage. Or we can use our mouths to be free! We have to watch our words in order to get a breakthrough.
