How Do We Win Against the Enemies of Our Faith?Give God Access to Our Hearts

What are the enemies of our faith?

Fear, not knowing what God says in his word about our lives, our own feelings and perceptions about things we face or life in general, the devil himself, other things like worry, doubt, sense of unworthiness, apathy (lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern).

Point- Easy for us to point out the external, but not as easy for us to point out the internal. It’s an inside job. Inside jobs are often not easy to see.

So, what effect does the enemy of our faith on us:

Steals our joy, takes away our opportunity to be victorious and overcome what we are faced with, robs us of a testimony, and there is a lack of opportunity to glorify God.

We must give God access to our heart.

We must understand that because we took something to God in prayer does not necessarily mean we gave him access to our hearts.

Sometimes we can pray about something and still be holding on to it after the prayer is over.

Sometimes we can pray about something, let it go, and pick it back up.

Maybe if we knew what the enemies of our faith are and where it comes from, we wouldn’t be so quick to receive it or allow it into our lives.

Scriptures regarding the enemy of our faith:

Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love and a sound mind.

Fear comes from the devil, not from God.

Hearing What the Enemy Is Saying Above What God is Saying (Getting rid of other voices)

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

In order to hear from God we have to put aside what we feel like we are facing, and what we feel like we want to say to Him and spend time listening. What does that look like? Meditating on what He says reveals to us His will (what He can do, what He wants to do, and what He will do)

Doubt

James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, not wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the win and tossed.

We have to trust Him and not doubt. How do we keep our faith from wavering?

Ask God for strength to believe.

How to Give God Access to Our Hearts

  • Getting rid of fear by allowing ourselves to hear the voice of God above everything else.

  • Asking God for strength to trust Him and not doubt Him.

  • In prayer give our cares over to God, leave them there, and take time to hear His voice, not ours. An easy way to accomplish that is meditate on scripture.

  • You cannot meditate on scripture and your thoughts at the same time.

  • The power and strength that you are seeking from the Lord is going to come from His word, not our thoughts.

  • Any answers that you need from the Lord will be revealed to you through His word, not our thoughts.

In Conclusion:

  • There is no power in our own thoughts.

  • There is not enough strength in our ways or thoughts to overcome the enemy of our faith.

  • We cannot get the answers that we need to be an overcomer and a conqueror from our own thoughts and ideas.
