March: Stay Connected to God- Staying Clear of Traps that Disconnect
While there are many ways to stay connected to the God there are many things that can disconnect us from Him. Often, we may not know we are disconnected from Him.
Ironically simply attending church does not guarantee a connection with God. There are several factors that foster our connection to Lord even outside of being in the “building” as they say.
Understand that we play a major part in staying connected.
What are the ways that we can make sure that we don’t disconnect from the Lord.
Being mindful of the words of our mouth and what we meditate on in our hearts.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable and pleasing in Your sight, …
The words that we speak, and what we allow our hearts to meditate on have the power to keep us in align with God’s promises for our lives or move us away from what He was for us. Therefore, it’s important for us to be mindful of the words we speak, as well as what we meditate on in our heart.
What should we be meditating on to stay connected?
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee.
We should be making every effort daily to meditate on what God says in His word.
What words should we aim at speaking?
Proverbs 12:18 The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
2. Don’t give in to defeat.
Do not allow what you are going through to become your truth. If we accept defeat, it will cause us to meditate on being defeated. The goal is that if we find ourselves even wrestling with it do not give in.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
We must be mindful to not be preoccupied with defeat that it overtakes our lives.
Mark 4:16-19
16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
18 And these are they which are sown among thorns, such as hear the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
3. Be mindful of the voices we listen to.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
We have to make sure that we are making our lives about God and not ourselves. When we make our life about the Lord we will make every effort to follow Him. Examples of making efforts to follow Him is making a personal commitment to grow in Him through things such as prayer, studying Gods word, meditating on His words, finding avenues to worship Him such as a church home, and placing ourselves in environments that foster our personal Christian growth. If we incorporate these things in our life His voice will become clearer and clearer.
